ALBANY, NY — After 12-years at 645 Albany Shaker Road, Times Union sports editor Pete Iorizzo is heading across town to take an assistant athletic director/media relations position at the State University of New York at Albany.

I’m very excited to join a department with a winning tradition, exceptional student-athletes and an accomplished staff,” Iorizzo said in a statement. “After having covered many of the Great Danes’ successes as a journalist, I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue telling the UAlbany story, now as part of the team. I can’t wait to get to work.”

The 35-year old Syracuse University graduate will spend his last day at the Hearst-owned property on Friday, July 21 before starting at the University the following Monday.

“We are extremely excited to have Pete Iorizzo to lead the Great Danes Media Relations team.  His extensive background as a sports writer, columnist and sports editor of the region’s leading newspaper will play an integral role, as we find new ways to tell the story of our amazing student-athletes,” said UAlbany Athletics Director Mark Benson”The delivery of media is constantly changing.  We feel that Pete will help put us in the forefront of this area in college athletics.  To say the least, we are very excited to have him as part of our team.”

The award winning columnist, reporter, and editor will be most remembered for his thought provoking Sunday columns on everything from a dinner party and the decline of the multi-sport athlete.

Iorizzo, his wife, and their son reside in Clifton Park.
