New York Yankees: How The Yankees Changed The Look Of Their Franchise

The New York Yankees have gone from the “Evil Empire” to the “Baby Bombers” within a matter of months, how did this drastic change happen so quickly?

The days in Major League Baseball where the Yankees were considered the enemy to just about everybody, seems like it is completely over. They have gone from the team that goes out and spends boat loads of money in free agency every season and looking for all of the headlines in the paper, to a team that is growing within their own organization and actually being pretty successful at it.

Within the past month or so, the Yankees have made drastic changes to their roster that has changed the landscape of the way the team is looked at. Players that are no longer on the team that were there earlier on in the season are Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller, Alex Rodriguez, Nathan Eovaldi. Despite not having all of these players available to them, they are still doing something historic and making a run at playoff baseball after selling at the deadline.

On August 13th, seemingly everything in the Yankee world changed. On a day where many fans were grieving the departure of Alex Rodriguez, two new careers in the Bronx started that has changed the way the Yankees play baseball. Top prospects Aaron Judge and Tyler Austin both made their major league debuts and went back-to-back in their first two at-bats, absolute madness. This was only to add on the arrival of Gary Sanchez on August 3rd whom of which is a whole nother story all in himself.

So how did they change the way people look at them just within a month and a half? The fire. These new look Yankees are much more likeable then the Yankee teams we have seen in the past, they have a fire behind them and are hungry to win and since they have arrived on the scene that is all that they have really done, win. In the middle of August, the Yankees were as deep as six games back from the second American League Wild Card spot but now, as of today’s writing they are only two games back from that same spot and only four games back from first place in the division, which is definitely possible considering that the Yankees have seven games left in the season against the Red Sox.

Who does not like a good comeback story? The Yankees were considered out of the race entirely by the end of July and they have beat the odds and have been able to reach a level that they are at right now. Gary Sanchez has been one of the biggest spark plugs in MLB history in such a short period of time. He currently has 14 home runs in just 38 games which is a ridiculous level that puts him in third place all-time for the most home runs in a player’s first 38 career games. If you take Sanchez’s current stats and adjust them to a 162 game span, he would bat .333 with 60 home runs and 111 RBI’s… Remarkable.

It is the fans decision whether or not they like the young and exciting Yankees, most say yes but there are some that are impatient for the rookies to progress and show the potential that they have.

Therefore, the Yankees have changed the look of their franchise with young players like Aaron Judge, Rob Refsnyder, Gary Sanchez, and Tyler Austin, along with many more top prospects waiting for their call-ups in the minor leagues. The future is looking VERY bright for the Bronx Bombers.
