TROY, NY — A Nassau man pleaded guilty to running over a young dog in Stephentown in Rensselaer County Court on Monday, according to the office of Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel Abelove.
Forty-eight-year-old Joel F. Rose pleaded guilty to felony animal cruelty charges stemming from an October 16, 2016, incident involving a 10-month-old dog in Stephentown. Following an argument, Rose left a home in the rural town and purposefully moved out of his lane to hit the dog, who had followed his vehicle into the roadway. The dog later died from its injuries sustained at the hands of the Nassau man.
“The defendant committed a callous and malicious act of cruelty that took the life of an innocent dog and traumatized its family,” Abelove said. “My office will continue to aggressively pursue those who prey upon innocent animals.”
For the killing, Rose will spend 30-days in jail and another five years on probation.
