Mechanicville man identified as victim in Amtrak collision

CASTLETON — The man struck and killed by an Amtrak train in the Village of Castleton on Thursday has been identified. 

Thomas (Tom) Brust, 27, of Mechanicville was struck by the 239 Amtrak Empire Service train as it neared the end of a 141 mile trip from New York City’s Pennsylvania Station toAlbany–Rensselaer station. 

Brust’s Facebook page states he is a 2008 graduate of Mechanicville High School and shows ties to the Northern Rensselaer County town of Schaghticoke. 

The Upstate Courier has learned that Brust has family in the Castleton area and may have been with one of them at the time of the collision.
