McDonald leads Ballston Spa past Troy in season opener

Ballston Spa boys’ lacrosse should have had their first game of the season on Tueaday, but the weather had other plans. The Scotties’ home field was covered in snow, and Tuesday’s matchup against Shenedehowa was postponed. Ballston was eager and anxious to get on the field, and it showed with a 19-1 trouncing of Troy on Thursday night.

Sophomore Joe McDonald lead the team with 6 points (5 goals, 1 assist) and Le Moyne commit Hans Zimmer combined with fellow senior Luke Richardson for 7 goals and 3 assists. Junior goalie Damien Randall made 8 saves, and sophomore James Nash made 3 in his first varsity appearance. Ballston Spa expects to be among the top teams in Class B this season, along with Burnt Hills and Albany Academy, who are the defending Class B champions. David Woellener scored the only goal for Troy, their first goal as a member of Suburban Council lacrosse. The Flying Horses drop to 0-1, and next play Burnt Hills on Monday, and the Scotties move to 1-0, and will play Averill Park on Tuesday.
