Huge Second Inning Propels Army West Point Past Saints

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Army West Point erupted for eight runs in the second inning en route to a 9-4 win over Siena Baseball at Siena Field. The Saints pounded out 12 hits in the defeat, with four players recording multi-hit efforts.

Army West Point (16-18) batted around in sending 12 men to the plate during the decisive frame. The Black Knights recorded seven of their 13 hits in the inning, highlighted by two-run hits from John McKenna and Matt Hudgins. Army West Point also stole five bases in the inning, including a double steal of second and home.

Siena (11-16-1) tallied single runs in the third and fourth innings, and added a pair of runs in the ninth to account for their scoring. Senior Dan Swain recorded a pair of hits and stolen bases, while junior Joe Drpich added two hits and two RBI. Freshman pinch hitter Nico Ramos contributed his second home run of the season in the final frame.

Freshman pitcher Matt Pierce was strong on the mound in relief, allowing just one run while scattering six hits in a season-high 6.2 innings of work.

The Saints continue their season long nine-game homestand with a doubleheader on Good Friday to open a three-game series with MAAC rival Canisius. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
