How Google is falsely telling everyone Tom Brady owns the Jets

Google got a lot of heat today after it was discovered that the search engine was spreading an alternative fact that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was the owner of the New York Jets. But it’s not their fault.

The fake news didn’t come from the Santa Clara County tech giant. Apparently, Google, which aggregates quick facts from Wikipedia and drops them on the front page of search results has zero editorial control over what comes up.

What happened, the best I can tell is that some bonehead edited the Wikipedia page listing National Football League team owners. As of 2:59 p.m.  EDT, Brady was listed as the owner of the Jets.

Here’s a screenshot of the page so we never forget:

Woody Johnson is the actual Jets owner.
