Glens Falls Civic Center gets cool new name

GLENS FALLS — The Glens Falls Civic Center has a new name.

Since its inception, 38-years ago, the Soviet like building on the corner of Glen Street and Oakland Avenue has stud solely under the name and branding of the Glens Falls Civic Center, but that all changed Wednesday.

In a morning press conference, the Adirondack Civic Center Coalition, which owns the 4,794 seat facility, announced a branding agreement with Cool Insuring Agency until 2022. Under the agreement, the building will now be known as “Cool Insuring Arena.”

“We’re proud to partner with a great member of our community in Cool Insuring Agency as we are able to name our building for the first time in its 38-year history,” Said Adirondack Civic Center Coalition President Dan Burke.

Financials of the deal were not released, but the Coalition recently purchased the Adirondack Thunder from Calgary Sports & Entertainment — ensuring the team’s future in “Hometown U.S.A.”

“From day one in 1979, we have been a season ticket holder and dasher board advertiser at the Civic Center,” Cool Insuring Agency Vice President Jack Bieniek said. “We are acutely aware of the benefits of what a viable and catalytic entertainment venue means to our hometown community and its local businesses.”

Besides the Thunder, the arena hosts concerts and events throughout the year including the New York State Federation and Section II basketball tournaments.

Cool Insurance is locally based in Queensbury.
