Gerrain leads Maple Hill in win over Taconic Hills

CASTLETON, NY.– After falling to Cairo-Durham one-nil earlier in the week, the Maple Hill Girls’ Varsity Soccer team were ready to play Thursday afternoon in a key matchup against Taconic Hills (TH).

Just three minutes in, Cameron Lankenau put the Wildcats on the board, forever controlling the game.  Three minutes and 22 seconds later, Taylor Gerrain delivered her first of four goals on the day.  That goal, followed by two more from Gerrain before halftime, gave Maple Hill a commanding four-nil lead and Gerrain a hat trick. “My teammates helped me out a lot finding the open hole, and I just ran with it,” said the Maple Hill junior.

With 29 minutes and 30 seconds remaining on the clock, Gerrain made it a 5 score lead for MH.  The goal, Gerrain’s final of the day, went in thanks to something the team had worked on during practice just the day before. “Taking balls out of the air,” the three-sport varsity athlete said after the game, thanks to a little coaching from coach Sheila Golden.

In the closing minutes, Freshman Paige Blue and Junior goalie Arianna Papas scored to give Maple Hill the seven-nil victory.

These two teams will meet again in just a few weeks, under the lights at Taconic on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7:00 p.m. The Wildcats are home again on Monday, Sept. 19, at 4:00 p.m. against Hudson.

Between now and then, Gerrain says they can work on “setting balls on the ground, because this is the first game that we’ve actually done it.”

For Taconic, their next game will also come on Monday, Sept. 19, at 4:00 p.m., but they will play host to the Cairo-Durham Mustangs.ff
