Former Union Hockey standout to sign with pro team

CALGARY — Former Union College men’s hockey forward Spencer Foo has committed to the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL), the Flames announced Tuesday evening. Foo’s contract will be finalized and made official on July 1st.

A 2017 Hobey Baker Award Top-10 finalist and a CCM/AHCA First-Team All-American, Foo finished the season ranked fourth in Division I in points (62), second in multi-point games (20), tied for second in assists (36), tied for third in plus-minus (+29) and tied for fourth in goals (26). His 36 assists set a program single-season record, while his 62-point campaign places him second in program history. He also compiled a program-record 21-game point streak and registered at least one point in 34 of 38 games.

Foo led ECAC Hockey in assists (25), plus-minus (+20) and multi-point games (14) and finished tied with teammate Mike Vecchione for the league’s scoring title (40 points).

The Edmonton, Alberta native became the 14th 100-point scorer in Union’s Division I era, registering 112 points (49G-63A) in 113 career games with the Dutchmen.
