Former Catholic Central standout ends career with NE10 golf honors

MANSFIELD, MA — Saint Rose senior Corey Purcell (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) has added another line to his impressive collegiate resume by garnering second-team All-League honors from the Northeast-10 Conference. This is the first year that the coaches have voted on the All-Conference selections as those previously honored were selected for their play at the conference championships.

Purcell played all 20 rounds this past season to help the Golden Knights capture their first NCAA Tournament team berth where they placed eleventh among 20 competing schools at the East/Atlantic Regional Championship. Purcell, the squad’s lone senior, finished with a three-round eight-over-par, 224 to tie for 15th place among 107 competitors.

In the fall, Purcell won the NE10 individual title by tying a school record with an opening round 69 on the way to a two-round, four-under 140 at Olde Kinderhook Golf Club in Valatie. He also took home fourth place with a two-round total of 153 at the NEIGA Fall Championships.

Purcell closed out his Saint Rose career with the second highest scoring average (77.66) in program annals. He also owns three of the top-eight single-season scoring averages, and three of the top-five single-round scores in school history.
