Farewell to Kevin “the Big Ticket” Garnett

21 seasons gone by, and Kevin Garnett is set to retire. From his time with the Timberwolves (1995-07, 2014-16) to his role in Boston being apart of the ‘Big 3,’ (2007-13) and even his two seasons with Brooklyn. (2013-15)

As he entered the league straight out of high-school in 95′ the Timberwolves drafted their soon-to-be franchise player. With Kevin, the Timberwolves were playoff bound EIGHT consecutive seasons and even made the Western Conference Finals in 2003-04.

In the summer of 2007, Garnett would be traded to the Boston Celtics. The ‘Big 3’ (Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce) would change the game, and add a ring while doing so. They made the playoffs five more times and lost to the Lakers in the NBA Finals. (2009-10)

They say ‘all good things must come to an end,’ Garnett would leave Boston and sign with Brooklyn. Two ‘mediocre’ seasons past and Garnett would decide to return home. In his time with Brooklyn, he averaged a measly 6.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists.

In February of 2015, Kevin Garnett returned to Minnesota. To teach and inspire the young roster with the talents of Andrew Wiggins, and Karl Anthony Towns. His older age and frame were taking a toll, having dominated his position for 21-seasons Garnett knew to call it quits.

On his career, Garnett averaged 17.6 points, 10 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.4 blocks, and 1.3 steals. He shot 49.7% from the field and 78.9% from the free-throw line. In total, he scored 26,071 points, pulled down 14,662 rebounds, and 11,453 defensive rebounds. He had 15 All-Star selections, and 12 All-Defensive selections. He was the league MVP in 2003-04 and won a championship in 2007-08.

All in all, Kevin Garnett is an icon to the game of basketball, whether he be known best as a trash-talker or blocking shots after the whistle we all know he will be missed. So thank you, Kevin Garnett, for inspiring all of us. For being an intense competitor and always bringing the ‘winners mentality.’
