Will Randy Cesar ever stop hitting?
The ‘Cats third baseman went 4-4 with 4 hits, 2 RBI’s and 3 runs scored in a 10-2 ValleyCats victory over the division leading Connecticut Tigers. And he wasn’t the only one having a night on offense.
Ryne Birk can not only hit, but hit it out. He smashed his third homer of the season in the 1st inning to start out the scoring and give the ‘Cats a 1-0 lead. It was a quiet night for Ronnie Dawson on offense, but he made the most of his 1st inning at-bat doubling to right field and driving in 2 runs. That gave the ‘Cats a 3-0 lead and they never looked back.
Hits from Carmen Benedetti and Jake “from plate farm” Rogers helped pad the lead. And the offense for Tri-City ended up with 10 runs on 14 hits. If only every night could be like that.
Alright, so we’ve given enough credit to the offense. The pitching has been spot on to start this series against the Tigers. Kevin Hill and Austin Nicely both went 4 innings. Hill pitching a shutout, and Nicely getting his team leading 3rd win. Locke St. John, former college teammate of Kevin Hill, took the loss for Connecticut.
Tri-City has been on the winning trend, with victories in 6 of their last 8 games. And manager Lamarr Rogers knows exactly why they’ve been collecting the wins. “Pitching, pitching, pitching. Pitching fuels everything.”
The series against the Tigers concludes tomorrow night in Troy. Followed by a three game series against Batavia to finish the homestand.
