Cavaliers send Kyrie Irving to Celtics for Isaiah Thomas

The Cleveland Cavaliers have given what Kyrie Irving asked for weeks ago. He is now officially on his way to the Boston Celtics for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the 2018 unprotected first round Brooklyn Nets pick.

This is huge for both teams and here is how both teams benefit.

Cavaliers: The Cleveland Cavaliers acquire point guard Isaiah Thomas, forward Jae Crowder, center Ante Zizic and the 2018 first round Brooklyn Nets pick.

Now this means two things.

  1. The Cavaliers are trying to complement a Kyrie Irving with two point guards in Thomas and Derrick Rose
  2. They are preparing for their life after LeBron James.

Now this trade should actually scare Cavaliers fans a little because with this trade means the organization has a strong feeling LeBron James will not return after this coming season. In order to fill that void they pick up a solid point guard in Thomas who can score, a decent defender in Crowder and a first round pick that could turn into a franchise guy who can lead this team to greater heights down the road.

That is why they benefit from this trade. LeBron James is also getting older (believe it or not) and frankly he will not be with the Cavaliers forever. However; they should be set for the long run if Thomas can stay healthy and if they use that Brooklyn pick next in next years draft wisely. This trade will actually benefit the Cavaliers in the long run and will not leave them at the bottom of the league just like they were when LeBron left for Miami.

Celtics: The Boston Celtics acquire Kyrie Irving.

This is a no-brainer that the Celtics made out well in this trade. They picked up an all-star point guard who can score the ball with ease. Kyrie Irving is also bigger and taller than Isaiah Thomas and can defend a little better. It also allows Irving to receive another chance to see what he can do when he is the main man on the team. He could not lead the Cavaliers to playoff wins but maybe he can help this Celtics team. He clearly is now the best player on this Celtics team now it his time to shine.

This acquisition makes the Celtics even more in the hunt for that Eastern Conference championship. With the additions of Gordon Hayward and Marcus Morris this summer alongside Al Horford and second year player Jaylen Brown they could have a chance to knock off the Cavaliers next season and make it to the NBA finals for the first time since the 2009-2010 season.

The NBA is just getting more interesting. Fans everywhere are going crazy about this trade and simply cannot wait for this coming season to begin. New rivalries will form and the Eastern Conference finals will now be up for grabs and more fun to watch.

The Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers open their seasons off in Cleveland on October 17.
