‘Cats split doubleheader with Spinners

Lowell — For the second time in less than two weeks, the Tri-City valleyCats and Lowell Spinners found themselves playing each other in a doubleheader thanks to mother nature. Last time, the ValleyCats won the first game, but lost the second. Given the close battle for first in the NY-Penn league’s Stedler division, both teams were equally eager to grab two wins in one day’s work.

In game one, the Spinners came out swinging putting two runs on the scoreboard before the end of the first inning, yet that’s all they would get. Motivated from being down, the ValleyCats put up three runs in the second, giving them a one run advantage.  As Lowell struggled with the sticks, the ‘Cats pounced and when the fat lady song they had the 13-2 victory. Unfortunately the fat lady song a much different note in game two.

After getting blown out by 11 runs in front of their own fans, the Spinners had redemption hot on their minds when again they were the first ones to score in the first inning. This time, their would be no digging ou for Tri-City and when the fat lady finally song for the last time it was in favor of the Spinners(7-0FINAL).

The ValleyCats will now travel to Vermont for a three game set with the Lake Monsters before the NYPL All-Star game on Tuesday.
