Burke fired as RPI women’s hockey coach

TROY — Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s ice hockey coach, John Burke has been fired after 14 years with the Engineers, The school’s Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Director Lee McElroy announced in a press release over the weekend.

Burke has been the Engineers only Division I coach in the program’s 12-year history. In that time he achieved a record of 144-217-49.

The team has not had a winning record since 2009-10.

“We conduct annual evaluations of our athletic programs and the performance of all our coaches at the end of the season, and we have determined that a change in leadership is necessary,” McElroy said. “We appreciate Coach Burke’s contributions and wish him the best in his career.”
