Broadalbin teen dies after being hit by car on Route 29

BROADALBIN — A 15-year-old boy was struck and killed on Saturday while crossing a busy road in the town, according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s office.

Ryan Frye, a sophomore at Broadalbin-Perth High School, was crossing a portion of Route 29 near the Broadalbin Stewart’s Shop at around 9:00 p.m. when he was hit by Sandra Frasier of Johnstown.

The 80-year-old driver was returning from Saratoga Springs with two family members, neither of which saw the teen who was wearing dark clothing, the Times Union is reporting.

Richard C. Giardino, a Fulton County Sheriff’s officer told the Hearst-owned publication that Frasier was not speeding, and alcohol was not involved.

Frye was taken to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville where he died of his injuries.

“This is a tragic loss for the Broadalbin-Perth school community. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Ryan,” said Broadalbin-Perth Superintendent Stephen Tomlinson in a statement. “Members of the Broadalbin-Perth school system will be on hand to provide grief counseling early Monday morning and throughout the coming days.”
