Awful Flagrant Foul ruling ends Seton Hall’s season

With 22 seconds remaining in Friday’s National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) first round tournament game against No.8 Arkansas, the Seton Hall men’s basketball team was forced to foul to slow down the clock, down 72-71. But it would ultimately cost them their season.

Pirates junior forward Desi Rodriguez pushed Arkansas junior guard Jaylen Barford, resulting in a typical foul on the floor, but the officials felt the need to review it. After reviewing the call, the three blind mice turned the call into a Flagrant one which gave AU 2 shots and ball — ending the game.

D. Collins, the NCAA’s coordinator of officiating stands by the call because “Rodriguez made no attempt to get in front of Barford.”

Arkansas won by a final score of 77-71 and advances to face No.1 North Carolina (UNC) in the round of 32 on Sunday. The contest’s start time has not yet been announced.
