A look in at the state of the New York Yankees

What is the state of the New York Yankees? The answer is.. Full on sell mode.

After a series sweep against the last place Rays today and on a four game losing streak. It is pretty clear the 2016 Yankees aren’t going anywhere.

Earlier today the Yankees traded Andrew Miller to the Cleveland Indians. The Yankees received Outfielder Clint Frazier, and pitchers Justus Sheffield, Ben Heller and J.P. Feyereisen. All four of these players have high expectations in the Yankees organization. Brian Cashman stated earlier today, out of the four players, Frazier is closest to the majors.

To go along the fact that the Yankees are in sell mode, Monday they traded one of the best closer in all of baseball Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs. Another deal that saw one major league player and three minor league players come to New York. That deal included top shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres, pitcher Adam Warren and minor league outfielders Billy McKinney and Rashad Crawford. Warren is the only one that is currently on the 25 man roster from that deal.

With 22 hours left until the trade deadline ends, do the Yankees trade Carlos Beltran? I would be surprised if they did not. Beltran is batting .304 with 22 HR’s, 64 RBI’s, and has a .344 OBP. What team in the majors would not want to add this to their roster? Well the 15 teams in the National League might not. Since Beltran is inching towards 40 years old he hasn’t exactly played his best outfield in recent memory. Yes, he does still have his power arm out in right field, but his mobility isn’t a selling point in this trade. Which is why if he is dealt within the next few hours expect him to go to an American League team with a designated hitter.

I was asked earlier today on Twitter by a Yankee fan, should they trade away Brett Gardner and/or Brian McCann. My answer is yes. If the Yankees are completely in sell mode, which I think they should be, they should be looking at all the possible trade opportunities. Do I think they aren’t? No. I think if this team can get a few more prospect to overflow the minors like they have been, this team could be in the playoff mix in about 2 years. This team is definitely a team to watch grow and rebuild over the next two MLB seasons, then watch out. 2018 is the year of the Yankees.
